Ms. Emily

I am excited to guide you in your study of piano. I began my own musical journey at age 4, and continued playing through college. Prior to partnering with Funtimes Music Academy, I operated my own piano studio in southern Michigan, teaching beginning and intermediate piano to students ages 4 through high school.

The great Michelangelo said it best: “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” Learning music is about much more than notes and rhythms (although they are important too!). By mastering difficult pieces through diligence and perseverance, students acquire the confidence that they can succeed in any endeavor through consistent effort. I approach each piece from two levels: the technical and the expressive. By mastering notes and rhythms, students acquire the technical foundation necessary for safe and accurate playing. Once the foundation is mastered, the student can begin to use the piece as a vehicle for self-expression. Each piece is intentionally chosen with the individual student's needs in mind, to foster the specific skills that they need to master. In addition to classical repertoire, I also challenge my students to study accompaniment techniques, pop chord progressions, and music theory, because those are the skills that they will need to play recreationally throughout life.

I am excited to partner with you as you begin this exciting journey!
